Fairuz

Nouhad Wadi Haddad (born November 21, 1935), famously known as Fairuz, also spelled Fairouz or Fayrouz, meaning "Turquoise") is a Lebanese singer who is widely considered to be the most famous living singer in the Arab world and one of the best known of all time. Her songs are constantly heard throughout the region, and still spark Lebanese national pride.
She was first noticed at the International Festival of Baalbek, where she performed many of her songs. She became famous after appearing on the "Lebanese Nights" part of the festival for many successive years. Fairuz is commonly known as "Ambassador to the Stars" and "Neighbor to the Moon" (for her famous song about the moon of Machgara).

Musical plays or operettas were the cornerstone works of the Rahbani Trio, Fairuz, Assi and Mansour. The Rahbani Brothers produced 25 popular musical plays (20 with Fairuz) over a period of more than 30 years. They were possibly the first to produce world-class Arabic musical theatre.
The musicals combined storyline, lyrics and dialogue, musical composition varying widely from Lebanese folkloric and rhythmic modes to classical, westernized, and oriental songs, orchestration, and the voice and acting of Fairuz. She played the lead roles alongside singers/actors Nasri Shamseddine, Wadih El Safi, Antoine Kerbaje, Elie Shouayri (Chouayri), Hoda (Fairuz's younger sister), William Haswani, Raja Badr, Siham Chammas (Shammas), Georgette Sayegh and many others.
The Rahbani plays expressed patriotism, unrequited love and nostalgia for village life, comedy, drama, philosophy, and contemporary politics. The songs performed by Fairuz as part of the plays have become immensely popular among the Lebanese and Arabs around the world.

when ever we talk about fairuz we have to talk about ( Al- Rahabne) , with their theatre movement we can say that they are the one's who established the arabic art.
As the 1960s wore on, Fairuz became known as the "First Lady of Lebanese singing", as Halim Roumi dubbed her. During this period the Rahbani brothers wrote and composed for her hundreds of famous songs, most of their operettas, and 3 motion pictures.
In 1969, Fairuz's songs were banned from the radio stations in Lebanon for six months because she refused to sing at a private concert in honour of Algerian President Houari Boumedienne. The incident only served to increase her popularity. Fairuz made it clear then and since that while always willing to sing to her public and to various countries and regions, she would never sing to any individual.

Smoking and diseases

Smoking and diseases

Smoking causes an accumulation of fatty substances in the arteries, known as atherosclerosis, the main contributor to smoking-related deaths. Smoking is also a significant contributory factor in coronary heart disease risk. People with coronary heart disease are much more likely to have a heart attack.

Tobacco smoke raises the risk of coronary heart disease by itself. When combined with other risk factors, such as hypertension (high blood pressure), obesity, physical inactivity, or diabetes, the risk of serious, chronic illness and death is huge.

Smoking also worsens heart disease risk factors. It raises blood pressure, makes it harder to do exercise, makes the blood clot more easily than it should. People who have undergone bypass surgery and smoke have a higher risk of recurrent coronary heart disease.

A female smoker who is also on the contraceptive pill has a considerably higher risk of developing coronary heart disease and stroke compared to women using oral contraceptives who don't smoke.
If you smoke your levels of HDL, also known as good cholesterol will drop.
If you have a history of heart disease and smoke, your risk of having such a disease yourself is extremely high.

A much higher percentage of regular smokers have strokes compared to other non-smokers of the same age. The cerebrovascular system is damaged when we inhale smoke regularly.
Those who smoke run a higher risk of developing aortic aneurysm and arterial disease.

Examples of online advertising include contextual ads on search engine results page, banner ads blogs, Rich MediaAds, Social network advertising, interstitial ads, online classified advertising, advertising networks and e-mail marketing,

The internet has become an ongoing emerging source that tends to expand more and more. The growth of this particular medium attracts the attention of advertisers as a more productive source to bring in consumers.
A clear advantage consumers have with online advertisement is the control they have over the product, choosing whether to check it out or not.
Online advertisements may also offer various forms of animation. In its most common use, the term "online advertising" comprises all sorts of banner, e-mail, in-game, and keyword advertising, on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, or Myspace has received increased relevance. Israel's democracy

Palestinians were kicked out of their homes and blocked to return to the country were they were born. And those who stayed are under military and apartheid rule by Israeli government. While Jewish convert immigrants who never had any connection to the land are allowed to come and register under 'Jewish nationality'.

In fact, in Israel the nationality and citizenship are two different things. Both Jews and non Jews may have Israeli citizenship, but there is a Jewish nationality and an Arab nationality. Legal rights are set based on nationality and not citizenship. So Palestinians are treated like 3'rd class citizens in their own country

Since 1948, dozens of UN resolutions condemned Israel's colonial occupation, decades of discriminatory policies, illegal land seizures, settlements, international law violations, and harsh oppression. They called for remedial action.

Nothing so far worked. Palestine remains occupied. Its people keep suffering. Their human rights are denied. Gaza's suffocating under siege. Abuses this extreme can't be tolerated.

In solidarity, people of conscience demand justice and "call upon international civil society organizations and (supporters everywhere) to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those applied to (apartheid) South Africa."

The Artist

The Artist

What a wonderful picture this is one of those films you want to watch again and again, while yet being fearful of spoiling the experience. It is one of the most eloquent movies imaginable.

it is a French romantic comedy drama  in the style of  a black and white , It is a silent film . it was written and directed by Michel Hazanavich , starring Jean Dujardini and Bérénice Bejo. Even thou its a Silent movie ,there is a lot of music on the soundtrack and also a few strategic moments of onscreen noise that are both delightfully surprising and wildly illogical. The whole conceit of the picture is spun in willful disregard of the laws governing time, space and sound, an embrace of the preposterous that is perhaps more reminiscent of the spirit of early French cinema than of the old Hollywood.

The story takes place in Hollywood, between 1927 and 1932, and focuses on the relationship of an older silent film star and a rising young actress, as silent cinema falls out of fashion and is replaced by the talkies. .

The release of Rain Man and its psychological effects.

The release of Rain Man, coupled with the advances made in identifying the elusive causes, have allowed us to abrogate the old myths and understand the humanity of such autistics as Ray, rather than his different from the NT mainstream.
The movie focuses on an specific angles of autism. It focuses on how a man deals with his high -

functioning autistic brother ( Raymond) .it focuses on how autistic people have panic attacks they

and how do they express and responds to it  . Also it focuses on the intelligent and special abilities

that autistic people have .
Firstly the movie focuses on the panic attacks the autistic people have and how do they express and responds to certain events. For example, when Charlie and his autistic brother walk down the terminal in an airport.  They engage in a heated argument over whether they should board an airplane for Los Angeles.  The older brother complains about taking an airplane and fears for his life, telling his brother about the crashes that every airline has had.  The younger brother becomes annoyed and tells him that every airline has crashed at one point or another.  To this, the older brother exclaims, Qantas never crash.  Upset at his obstinacy and refusing to fly to Australia just to travel to Los Angeles, the younger brother attempts to pull the older.  He responds in the only way he knows by screaming.  Not wishing to undergo his painful screams, the younger brother stops and reassures his brother that they will drive to Los Angeles instead. When he screamed its because that’s his only way to express his refuse to travel by plane and fly to los Angelus .so in my opinion that helped people to understand the autistics panic attacks more and how should they deal with them in situations like this.
Secondly the movie focuses on the intelligent of the autistic people. As research says: “Many individuals who possess exceptional intellectual qualities are overlooked due to masks that hide their abilities”. And in this movie Raymond, who’s a 40-year-old man who is institutionalized because of his disability, but he can calculate incredible equations in his head faster than a computer.
As is the case in “Rain Man”, it takes his brother just a few days of brotherly bonding to realize that Raymond is not simply “slow,” nor is he a genius, but a unique combination of the two. Raymond has special needs that must be addressed, both for his autistic behaviours and his intellectual capacity.

Childhood cancer and Al-Twam Hospital Visit

I am posting these pictures which has been taken when i visited the childhood cancer section in Twam Hospital to talk about a very important illness which is childhood cancer . The types of cancers that develop in children are very different from the types that develop in adults. Childhood cancers are often the result of DNA changes in cells that take place very early in life, sometimes even before birth. Unlike many cancers in adults, childhood cancers are not strongly linked to lifestyle or environmental risk factors.
There are some exceptions, but childhood cancers tend to respond better to treatments such as chemotherapy (also called “chemo”). Children's bodies also tend to handle chemotherapy better than adults' bodies do. But cancer treatments such as chemo and radiation therapy can cause long-term side effects, so children who survive cancer need careful attention for the rest of their lives.

Treatments are chosen for childhood cancers based mainly on the type and stage (extent) of the cancer. Treatment options may include chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, and/or other types of treatment. In many cases, more than one of these treatments is used.
There are exceptions, but childhood cancers usually respond well to chemotherapy because they tend to be cancers that grow fast. (Most forms of chemotherapy affect cells that are growing quickly.) Children's bodies are also generally able to recover from higher doses of chemotherapy than are adults' bodies. Using more intensive treatments gives doctors a better chance of treating the cancer effectively, but it can also lead to more short- and long-term side effects. Doctors do their best to balance the need for intensive treatment with the desire to limit side effects as much as possible.

The 5-year survival rate refers to the percentage of patients who live at least 5 years after their cancer is diagnosed. Doctors use five-year rates as a standard way of discussing and comparing the prognosis (outlook for recovery) for different cancers. Of course, many children live much longer than 5 years, and many are cured. Keep in mind that 5-year survival rates are based on patients who were diagnosed and treated more than 5 years ago. Improvements in treatment often result in a better outlook for patients diagnosed more recently.

We have been told during our visit that when children feel happy they tend to be more healthy and thats why we did many activities that would help them rais defence in their system.
